CFP Poll, Week 5: What It Means For The Buffalo Wild Wings Citrus Bowl

The fifth of seven Top 25 rankings decided by the College Football Playoff Selection Committee was released Tuesday night.  Though the top of the rankings remained largely the same this week, changes in the bottom half of the rankings have impacted the projections for Orlando.

Here are the committee’s Top 25 teams through week 14 of the season:

1.       Alabama

2.       Oregon

3.       Florida State

4.       Mississippi State

5.       TCU

6.       Ohio State

7.       Baylor

8.       UCLA

9.       Georgia

10.   Michigan State

11.   Arizona

12.   Kansas State

13.   Arizona State

14.   Wisconsin

15.   Auburn

16.   Georgia Tech

17.   Missouri

18.   Minnesota

19.   Ole Miss

20.   Oklahoma

21.   Clemson

22.   Louisville

23.   Boise State

24.   Marshall

25.   Utah

If the college football season ended today, options for the Buffalo Wild Wings Citrus Bowl would include No. 14 Wisconsin or No. 18 Minnesota from the Big Ten and No. 15 Auburn, No. 17 Missouri, or No. 19 Ole Miss from the SEC.

The last time Auburn played Wisconsin was the 2006 Capital One Bowl in Orlando, where the Badgers earned a 24-10 victory.  A rematch may be in order this year at the Buffalo Wild Wings Citrus Bowl.  Wisconsin squared off against Missouri a total of 5 times – the last time being n 1984.  If they met in Orlando, it would make for a competitive game – the Badgers have the #2 rushing offense and the Tigers have a top 25 rushing defense.  Wisconsin has never played Ole Miss, but the success the Rebels experienced this season could resurface and provide the Badgers with a fierce opponent.

Auburn has never played Minnesota in the course of the teams’ history.  However, the No. 18 ranked Gophers will have to put up their best fight against the Tigers – Auburn has won over 60% of its bowl games throughout its storied history.  Minnesota has gone head-to-head with Missouri a total of eight times, but it’s been 44 years since these teams stepped on the same field.  Ole Miss competed against Minnesota once in 1932.
