After a stunning loss to Nebraska, Michigan State is the media’s new favorite to play in Orlando among four different Big Ten projections. On the other side, SEC East champion Florida is the most popular pick with three other teams also getting nods.
Here are the latest projections for the 70th annual Buffalo Wild Wings Citrus Bowl.
Jerry Palm (CBSSports.com): Michigan vs. Florida
Jason Kirk (SBNation): Michigan State vs. Florida
Mark Schlabach (ESPN): Michigan State vs. Ole Miss
Brett McMurphy (ESPN): Michigan State vs. Mississippi State
Bill Bender (Sporting News): Michigan State vs. Ole Miss
College Sports Madness: Minnesota vs. Mississippi State
Bryan Fischer (Bleacher Report): Michigan vs. Florida
Pete Fiutak (Campus Insiders): Wisconsin vs. Georgia
Michigan State, the new Big Ten media favorite, would be making its fourth appearance in the Buffalo Wild Wings Citrus Bowl but the first since 2011. Jason Kirk of SBNation has the Spartans facing off against Florida, which would be a rematch of the 2000 game where Michigan State won 37-34.
The Spartans’ other projected opponents, Ole Miss and Mississippi State, would be making their Buffalo Wild Wings Citrus Bowl debuts.
Michigan could tie Penn State for most appearances by a Big Ten team (five) if they appear in 2016. The Wolverines would be making their first Citrus Bowl appearance since 2008 when Llyod Carr defeated Tim Tebow and the Gators. Jerry Palm and Bryan Fischer are both projected a 2008 rematch.
For the second week in a row, Pete Fiutak of Campus Insiders has Wisconsin in the Buffalo Wild Wings Citrus Bowl. The Badgers would be making its fourth appearance in Orlando. Their projected opponent is no stranger to the City Beautiful. Georgia has the most appearances by an SEC school with six.
